UNIIMOG Force Commander’s Commendation

Established in August 1988, the United Nations Iran–Iraq Military Observer Group (UNIIMOG) was tasked with verifying, confirming, and supervising the cease-fire and withdrawal of all forces to internationally recognized boundaries agreed between Iran and Iraq. The UNIIMOG Force Commander's Commendation was awarded to personnel who served a minimum of 90 consecutive days between 9 August 1988 and 28 February 1991. The UN strictly applies its medals policy and will not consider requests for initial issuance of UN medals submitted more than one year after repatriation from the mission area. The medal may be awarded posthumously to members killed or presumed killed while on assignment.

Notes

United Nations Iran-Iraq Military Observer Group In the sector we were initially on hard rations. Then refrigerator units were shipped in to Baghdad. These were stationary units. With a bit of ingenuity, Corporal H. Bransfield, our Materials Technician, modified them so that they could be put on MLVW trucks. We now had a way of delivering fresh rations to the Sectors. First we had one meal a day then all meals. Corporal Bransfield received a Force Commander’s Commendation.
